Can I add essential oils for a fragrance?Updated 5 days ago
TL;DR: Yes, and it is entirely optional. Use 5 drops for a wash load or the Spray Mop bottle, 3 drops maximum in the Atomiser or the Foaming Spray Bottle, and a few drops in the loo. More than 3 drops in the Atomiser can clog or damage the mechanism, and citrus-type oils do not belong in the foamer. Every formula performs exactly the same without any oil at all.
Can I add essential oils for a fragrance?
✓ Yes, and it is optional
A few drops of essential oil will scent most Koh products. Every formula is fragrance-free by design and cleans exactly the same with or without it, so this is about how you want your home to smell rather than how well anything works. The two things to get right are the dose and where you put it.
How many drops should I add?
✓ How many drops, and where
⚠ 3 drops maximum in the Atomiser
Stick to 3 drops in the Atomiser Spray Bottle. Any more than that can clog or damage the mechanism. Swirl gently to disperse rather than shaking hard, and shake again before each use, since essential oils do not dissolve in water-based cleaners.
⚠ No citrus-type oils in the foamer
Keep citrus-type oils, including Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil, out of the Foaming Spray Bottle. They accelerate wear on the foaming mechanism. Use Eucalyptus Oil there instead. Thick or resinous oils also raise the clog risk, so go light or skip them.
Which essential oils does Koh UK sell?

Fresh, bright and clean. The safe all-rounder, and the one to reach for if you want to scent the Foaming Spray Bottle.

Zesty and uplifting, and a favourite with Dishwashing Liquid or in the loo. Despite the name it contains no lemon oil, see Does Lemon Scented Tea Tree Oil contain lemon oil? Keep it out of the foamer.
Where do the oils go, product by product?

✓ Laundry
Add 5 drops to the fabric softener dispenser on your machine, and leave the softener setting on so the dispenser releases later in the cycle. With Sensitive Laundry Sheets, drop the oil straight onto the sheet before it goes in the drum. No separate softener product needed.

✓ Universal Cleaner, Atomiser and Spray Mop
3 drops maximum into a refilled Atomiser Spray Bottle, swirled gently. 5 drops into the Spray Mop bottle of diluted Universal Cleaner, swirled before you attach it.

⚠ Foaming cleaners
3 drops maximum per refill of the Foaming Spray Bottle, whether you have filled it with Bathroom & Shower Cleaner or Kitchen Grease & Oil Cleaner. Non-citrus oils only, and nothing thick or resinous.

✓ Dishes
2 to 3 drops into Dishwashing Liquid in your Dish Pump, swirled gently. Or 1 to 2 drops on top of a Dishwashing Tab in the tray before you close it. Citrus-type oils are fine here.

✓ The loo
A few drops straight into the bowl once the Loo Cleaner Tab has dissolved. The oil sits on the surface of the water and releases scent gradually. Citrus-type oils are fine here too.
Any tips for getting it right?
✓ Four things worth knowing
Add it fresh each refill. Aroma fades in storage, so scent as you go rather than in advance.
Mix well, then shake before use. Essential oils do not dissolve in water-based cleaners and will separate out if left standing.
Spot test if you are unsure. Delicate fabrics and sealed stone are worth checking on a hidden patch first.
Store cool and dark. Keep the cap clean, avoid neat contact with skin, and keep oils out of reach of children.
What if I would rather have no scent at all?
✓ Prefer zero scent?
Simply leave the oils out. Every formula is fragrance-free by design and performs exactly the same without them. Adding oil is about how your home smells, not about how well anything cleans.

Fresh and bright, and safe to use across the whole range including the foamer. 3 drops is plenty in a spray bottle.

Refillable spray bottle for diluted Universal Cleaner. 3 drops of oil maximum, swirled gently.
