Can I use Bathroom & Shower Cleaner to clean the bowl of the toilet?Updated 3 days ago

TL;DR: Yes, above the waterline. Bathroom & Shower Cleaner handles the seat, lid, rim, under-rim, bowl walls, base and exterior. Below the waterline the foam simply dilutes in the water and stops working, so use Loo Cleaner Tabs there instead. Scrub with the Loo Blade, flush, done. One thing to be clear about: this is a cleaner, not a disinfectant or sanitiser, and it holds no biocidal product authorisation in Great Britain.

Can I use Bathroom & Shower Cleaner to clean the bowl of the toilet?

Yes, above the waterline. Spray Bathroom and Shower Cleaner onto the seat, lid, rim, under-rim and the bowl walls above the waterline. Let the foam sit for a few minutes to break down grime. Scrub around the bowl and under the rim with the Loo Blade. Wipe the seat, lid and outside of the toilet with a damp cloth. Flush. That handles everyday cleaning and light build-up in one pass. Below the waterline is a different job, because the foam dilutes in standing water and stops doing much, so Loo Cleaner Tabs are the right tool there.

✓ Above the waterline, four steps

1

Spray the bowl. Seat, lid, rim, under-rim and bowl walls above the waterline. Cover the area.

2

Let the foam dwell. A few minutes to break down grime and light mineral staining.

3

Scrub. Loo Blade around the bowl and under the rim. Damp cloth for the seat, lid and exterior.

4

Flush. Clears rinse water and loosened grime from the bowl.

What about below the waterline?

Use Loo Cleaner Tabs instead. Spraying Bathroom and Shower Cleaner into the water below the waterline just dilutes the product, so it does not do much. Loo Cleaner Tabs are designed to sit in the water and dissolve over time, exactly where you need them. Drop a tab in, let it soak, ten to fifteen minutes for light soil or overnight for heavy build-up, scrub with the Loo Blade, then flush.

How do I get a full bowl clean?

Combine both products. Drop a Loo Cleaner Tab in to soak while you work on the rest. Spray Bathroom and Shower Cleaner on the seat, lid, rim, under-rim and exterior. Let both dwell for ten to fifteen minutes so the tab soaks below the waterline while the foam clings above it. Scrub everything with the Loo Blade, above and below. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Flush. That is the full toilet clean in one session.

Does it disinfect the toilet?

No. Bathroom and Shower Cleaner is a cleaner, not a disinfectant, sanitiser or mould killer. It is not tested against antimicrobial standards and it holds no biocidal product authorisation in Great Britain, so Koh makes no germ-kill or hygiene claim for it, and the same is true of Loo Cleaner Tabs. What cleaning does is physically remove the soil, limescale film and grime that microbes live in, and flushing carries it away. If you need a genuine kill step, for example after illness in the household or a sewage backflow, use a separate product authorised in Great Britain for that purpose and follow its label.
