Can I use it to clean EnduroShield or similar coated shower screens?Updated 10 days ago

TL;DR: Most likely yes, but we have not independently tested it. Bathroom & Shower Cleaner is mildly alkaline at pH 8, close to neutral, and non-abrasive, which sits within the cleaning guidance most protective coating manufacturers publish. Koh has not run compatibility testing against EnduroShield or other branded coatings, so always spot test a hidden area first and check the coating manufacturer's own care instructions. Skip anything acidic, anything abrasive, and anything with strong solvents, because those are what damage coatings.

Can I use it to clean EnduroShield or similar coated shower screens?

Most likely yes, but Koh has not independently tested it. Bathroom and Shower Cleaner is mildly alkaline at pH 8, close to neutral, and non-abrasive, which matches the general cleaning guidance most coating manufacturers publish, including EnduroShield, ShowerGuard, ClearShield and similar nano or hydrophobic treatments: mild, non-acidic, non-abrasive cleaners. Because Koh has not run specific compatibility testing with these branded coatings, always spot test a small hidden area first and check the coating manufacturer's own care instructions before going wider. If the manufacturer's instructions and ours ever disagree, follow theirs, since they are the ones who warrant the coating.

What should I avoid on coated glass or treated surfaces?

Skip anything acidic, including vinegar, citric acid, descalers and lime removers. Skip anything abrasive, including scouring powders, stiff-bristled scrub brushes, melamine pads and abrasive scrub pads. Skip anything with solvents that can strip the coating, including acetone, methylated spirits and strong alcohols, and any aggressive degreaser not rated for treated surfaces. Scouring or scratching physically damages the nano layer, and acidic cleaners can etch through the coating over time. Bathroom and Shower Cleaner is non-abrasive and non-acidic, the opposite of these risk categories.

Vinegar, citric acid, limescale removers, scouring powders, melamine pads, abrasive scrub pads, methylated spirits, acetone, and any aggressive degreaser not rated for treated surfaces. These either etch the coating chemically or strip it physically. Diamond Sponges are also a no on coated screens, since they can leave microabrasions on treated glass.

How do I spot test a coated surface?

Pick a small hidden area of the coated surface, such as a corner near the floor, behind a fixed panel, or the edge of a shower screen. Spray a small amount of Bathroom and Shower Cleaner, wipe gently with a soft microfibre, wait five minutes, then rinse and dry. Check for any change to the coating: dullness, streaking, loss of water beading, which is the tell-tale sign a hydrophobic coating has been compromised, or visible damage. If the coating still beads water and looks identical to the untested area, you are clear to use it on the rest of the surface.

My glass is still cloudy after cleaning. What is it?

Three things look similar on shower glass but behave differently. Soap scum is a film of soap, body oils and grime sitting on top of the glass. It feels slightly slick or waxy and it responds to the right cleaner, dwell time and gentle agitation. Mineral build-up is calcium and magnesium from hard water dried onto the glass. It feels hard or gritty under your fingertips and needs repeat cleans or a specialist descaler. Glass etching is permanent microscopic damage to the glass itself, usually caused by long-term mineral exposure or acidic cleaners. It feels smooth but looks hazy, and no cleaner will fix it. Two checks tell them apart. Run your fingertips across the cloudy area on dry glass: slick suggests soap scum, gritty suggests mineral build-up, smooth but hazy suggests etching. Then clean a small patch thoroughly, rinse and dry, and compare it with the surrounding area in good daylight. If the cleaned patch looks noticeably clearer it is soap scum or mineral build-up. If it looks identical to the cloudy surrounds, it is etching. For soap scum, spray and let the foam sit for five to ten minutes rather than the usual two to three, agitate, rinse thoroughly and dry. Heavy soap scum can take two or three applications to shift fully.

Permanent damage to the glass surface, usually from long-term mineral exposure or acidic cleaners. Feels smooth but looks hazy. No cleaner will fix it, ours included. The glass needs replacing or resurfacing.

Fingertip test. On dry glass, run your fingertips across the cloudy area. Slick means soap scum. Gritty means mineral build-up. Smooth but hazy means etching.
