Are essential oils safe around cats, dogs and small pets?

Keep sprays and diffusers out of rooms where cats, dogs, birds, rabbits or small animals spend time. Essential-oil compounds can irritate airways, skin and eyes in ways that do not affect humans. Cats are especially sensitive because they cannot metabolise certain oil compounds.

Oils linger in soft furnishings, carpets and curtains. Air out the space thoroughly before letting pets back in. Every species and breed has different tolerances, so your vet can confirm what is safe for your household before you use any essential oil.
