How do I wash and care for the Ultra Pro Cloth?Updated 3 days ago

TL;DR: Machine wash Ultra Pro Cloth at 30°C with a mild liquid detergent like Sensitive Laundry Liquid or Sensitive Laundry Sheets, free of dyes, fragrances, bleach and softeners. Skip fabric softener, chlorine bleach, dryer sheets and cotton wash partners. Tumble dry low and never iron. Wash dark cloths separately for the first few washes to handle minor dye transfer.

How do I wash Ultra Pro Cloth?

Wash Ultra Pro Cloth before first use to unlock its full absorbency. Machine wash at 30 degrees Celsius with a mild liquid detergent free of dyes, fragrances, bleach and softeners. Wash it only with other non-linting materials, never cotton, to protect its dirt-gripping properties. Do not use fabric softener, chlorine bleach or dryer sheets. Wash dark cloths separately for the first few washes.

How to wash

1

First use: wash it before first use to unlock full absorbency. Microfibre ships with a light protective finish.

2

Temperature: 30°C machine wash. High heat is hard on the microfibre loop pile over time.

3

Detergent: a mild liquid detergent free of dyes, fragrances, bleach and softeners, such as Sensitive Laundry Liquid or Sensitive Laundry Sheets.

4

Wash partners: only with other non-linting materials. Never cotton, which sheds lint the microfibre grabs.

5

Darks first: wash dark cloths separately for the first few washes to limit dye transfer.

⚠ Avoid

Fabric softener clogs the microfibre and reduces performance. Chlorine bleach breaks down the fibres. Dryer sheets leave the same residue softener does. Cotton sheds lint the microfibre will grab. All four defeat the point of a finishing cloth.

No fabric softener No chlorine bleach No dryer sheets No cotton wash

How should I dry Ultra Pro Cloth?

Tumble dry on low heat and never iron Ultra Pro Cloth, as stated on the care label. Line-drying in a shaded, airy spot is also fine. Keep it off high heat and away from prolonged direct sunlight to protect the loop pile and the depth of the colour.

✓ Tumble dry low

The care label specifies tumble drying on low heat. Keep it off high heat, which is hard on the loop pile, and never iron it.

Low heat only Never iron

✓ Or line-dry in the shade

Line-drying is preferred. Hang it in a shaded, airy spot and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to protect the depth of the colour.

How do I refresh Ultra Pro Cloth between washes?

Between washes, rinse the cloth in warm water, wring it gently without twisting to expel the dirty water, and hang it by the edge binding so air flows through the loops. Store it completely dry in a cool cupboard. The nano-silver treatment slows odour-causing bacteria but does not eliminate them, so dry storage still matters.

✓ Storage

Store it completely dry in a cool cupboard. The nano-silver treatment slows odour-causing bacteria but does not eliminate them, so putting the cloth away damp can still leave it smelling off. More on the treatment in what the cloth is made from.

Will Ultra Pro Cloth transfer colour in the first wash?

Minor dye transfer is normal for deep-tone microfibre. Wash Ultra Pro Cloth separately, or with similar dark colours, for the first few washes. Once the loose dye settles you can wash it with most coloured loads. The transfer does not affect cleaning performance.

Washing it correctly is also what keeps the cloth big, thick and thirsty. See what size Ultra Pro Cloth is and how to use it.
