How do you dispose of Dish Sponges?Updated 7 days ago
TL;DR: Dish Sponges are made from FSC wood-pulp cellulose and are biodegradable & home-compostable. When they're done, compost them (or send to industrial composting). ♻️🧽
Are Dish Sponges compostable?
Yes, our dish sponges are made from natural wood pulp fibres (FSC certified), so they break down naturally and are suitable for home composting. When worn out, you can either:
- pop them into your home compost bin (rip or tear them into smaller pieces first), or
 - send them to an industrial composting facility if you have access to one (those facilities process items faster and at higher temperatures).

How to dispose safely (quick steps)
- Remove large food scraps - shake or rinse off stuck-on food first.
 - Tear into smaller pieces (helpful for home compost bins).
 - Compost at home - add to your green/compost heap; keep the pile aerated.
 - Or use industrial composting - place in local organics collection if available.

How long will they last?
With normal household use and proper care, a cellulose sponge typically lasts a few weeks. Product testing and real-world use indicate up to ~5 weeks, depending on frequency and how well it's dried between uses. Replace when it becomes ragged, permanently stained, or starts to break down.
Care tips to extend sponge life
- Rinse and squeeze dry after each use, remove trapped water and food.
 - Store in a well-ventilated spot so it air-dries between uses.
 - Avoid leaving the sponge sitting in a full sink of water.
 - If you need a quick refresh, rinse thoroughly and let dry in sunlight or a ventilated rack.

What about recycling or curbside bin?
Cellulose sponges are not suitable for standard curbside recycling. They’re biodegradable/compostable rather than recyclable. Composting is the recommended end-of-life route.
