Wash Universal Cloths separately from other laundry, at 60 degrees Celsius maximum, with no bleach and no fabric softener or conditioner. Line dry only. Fabric softener coats the microfibre and stops it lifting dirt, and bleach breaks the fibres down.

✓ The wash routine

  1. Wash separately from other laundry, so lint and fibres from other fabrics do not clog the microfibre.
  2. 60°C maximum. A normal machine cycle is fine, but do not go hotter.
  3. No bleach and no fabric softener or conditioner. Softener coats the fibres and stops them lifting dirt; bleach breaks the fibres down.
  4. Line dry only. Air dry after washing rather than tumble drying.

⚠ Fabric softener is the one to avoid

Softener leaves a coating across the microfibre that stops it gripping dirt and leaves streaks behind. If a cloth has stopped picking up, a softener-free wash is the first thing to try.

How long do Universal Cloths last?

With proper care, each microfibre cloth lasts up to 3,000 washes. Washing separately at 60 degrees maximum without bleach or softener, and line drying, is what gets them there.

What are the cloths made from?

Universal Cloths are microfibre. Bathroom and surface cloths are 420 GSM and glass cloths are 300 GSM, and both are 84 per cent polyester and 16 per cent polyamide. They are made in China.

My cloths are leaving streaks. What now?

Make sure the cloth is fully dry before using it. If it has absorbed too much water, swap to a dry cloth to finish the job. If streaking persists, rewash without fabric softener, since softener residue is the most common cause.
