What is in Loo Cleaner Tabs?

Koh Loo Cleaner Tabs carry fourteen declared ingredients, plus the PVOH film that forms the outer wrapper. The active cleaning agents are sodium bicarbonate as a gentle abrasive and deodoriser, citric acid and DL-tartaric acid as descalers, sodium percarbonate as an oxygen-based bleach for whitening and deodorising, sodium carbonate as an alkaline cleaning booster, sodium lauryl sulfate as the surfactant for grease and soil, and enzymes including protease for protein-based residues and lipase for fats and oils, with the protease supplied as a protease and amylase blend. The remaining ingredients support the tablet's structure and how it dissolves: itaconic acid copolymer, polyethylene glycol 4000, polyvinylpolypyrrolidone, croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Gentle abrasive and deodoriser. Fizzes with the acids to lift stains as the tablet dissolves.

Citric Acid

Descaler and stain remover. Dissolves limescale and mineral deposits, and adjusts pH.

DL-Tartaric Acid

Descaler and pH regulator. Helps dissolve limescale and soap scum.

Sodium Carbonate

Alkaline cleaning booster. Softens water and helps the surfactant cut grease.

Sodium Percarbonate

Oxygen-based bleach. Releases hydrogen peroxide on contact with water to whiten stains and deodorise.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Surfactant. Lowers water tension to break down grease and lift soils off the bowl.

Protease

Enzyme that breaks down protein-based residues. Supplied as a protease and amylase blend, so it also tackles starch residues.

Lipase

Enzyme that breaks down fats and oily residues.

Itaconic Acid Copolymer

Polymer dispersant and water softener. Keeps loosened soil from settling back on the bowl.

Polyethylene Glycol 4000

Binder and lubricant. Holds the tablet together and controls how gradually it dissolves.

Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone (Crospovidone)

Binder and stabiliser. Keeps the tablet in shape and improves how evenly it breaks up.

Croscarmellose Sodium

Disintegrant. Swells on contact with water so the tablet breaks apart quickly and evenly.

Microcrystalline Cellulose

Filler and binder. Gives the tablet structure and regulates its dissolution rate.

Magnesium Stearate

Processing aid and stabiliser. Stops ingredients clumping and keeps the tablet stable.

PVOH (Polyvinyl Alcohol)

The cold water-soluble outer wrapper film, also called PVA. Dissolves with the tab and leaves no residue.

Where are Loo Cleaner Tabs made?

Koh Loo Cleaner Tabs are made in China. The outer carton is cardboard and can go in your kerbside recycling. Each tablet is individually wrapped in a cold water-soluble PVOH film that dissolves in the bowl, so there is no plastic wrapper to dispose of. Use the tablets as directed and let each one dissolve completely, and do not flush a tablet that has only partly dissolved, because it can cause a blockage.
