Bathroom and Shower Cleaner has been GECA certified since June 2026. GECA stands for Good Environmental Choice Australia and is Australia's only multi-sector ecolabel, an independent third-party certification recognised under ISO 14024, assessed against a published standard covering ingredients, packaging, manufacturing and product performance. It is an Australian mark rather than a UK or EU one, because Koh's liquid cleaning products are made and certified in Australia, and no UK or EU ecolabel is substituted in its place. Behind the certification sit three specifics. First, composition: a short twelve-ingredient formula made from readily biodegradable ingredients, at a mildly alkaline pH 8, with no chlorine, no phosphates, no quaternary ammonium disinfectants, no added fragrance and no aerosol propellant. Second, format: it ships as a bag-in-box refill rather than a rigid bottle, which uses far less plastic per litre, and you refill a foamer you already own instead of buying a new trigger bottle each time. Third, dose: the foam is meant to dwell and do the work, so a correct dose cleans better than a heavy one. Readily biodegradable is a defined classification describing how quickly the ingredients break down in the environment; it describes the formula, not the packaging, and it is not the same as compostable. The inner bag of the bag-in-box is not currently recyclable.

The formula is twelve ingredients: deionised water, ethanol, sodium lauryl sulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium xylene sulfonate, sodium metasilicate pentahydrate, trisodium dicarboxymethyl alaninate, polyacrylic acid sodium salt, xanthan gum, phenoxyethanol, lipase and tocopheryl acetate, which is vitamin E. Left out are the categories most often flagged for environmental harm or for triggering sensitivities: no chlorine bleach, no phosphates, no quaternary ammonium disinfectants including benzalkonium chloride, no added fragrance and no aerosol propellant. The product is not tested on animals.

Bathroom and Shower Cleaner comes as a bag-in-box refill rather than a rigid bottle. There is no bottle. The outer box is cardboard and can be flattened and recycled through kerbside collection. The inner bag is a thin flexible plastic bladder and is not recyclable at this time, so please dispose of it according to your local council guidance. The bag-in-box format uses between eighty and ninety per cent less plastic than rigid containers and gives a four to one logistics efficiency advantage, which reduces transport emissions. The foamer you refill from it is reusable, so one foamer covers many refills.

Yes, when used as directed. Bathroom and Shower Cleaner is made from readily biodegradable ingredients, contains no chlorine, phosphates or harsh chemicals, and is low in sodium, so it will not harm the beneficial microbes in a septic or greywater treatment system when used as directed. For disposal, we do not recommend tipping large amounts down the drain, but a small amount followed by a large flush of water will not cause any damage.

A few habits compound. Use the recommended dose, because more product does not mean a better clean. Let the foam dwell for a few minutes before you scrub, so the chemistry does the work and you use less. Pair the cleaner with washable tools such as the Ultra Pro Bathroom Mitt and the Bathroom Squeegee rather than single-use wipes. Refill the foamer you already own instead of buying a new trigger bottle. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water where the surface allows.
