Is Sensitive Laundry Liquid safe to use on silk or wool garments?Updated 7 hours ago

TL;DR: No. The enzymes in Sensitive Laundry Liquid can break down protein-based fibres. Avoid wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, or angora. Use a wool-and-silk-specific detergent instead. Fine for cotton, synthetics, and blends.

Is Sensitive Laundry Liquid safe to use on silk or wool garments?

No. Koh Sensitive Laundry Liquid contains protease, an enzyme that breaks down protein-based stains like sweat and food residues. Wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, and angora are all protein-based fibres themselves, so the same enzyme that cleans your everyday clothes can damage these fabrics over repeated washes. The formula is fine for cotton, polyester, nylon, elastane, lycra, spandex, and other synthetic and blended fabrics. For wool, silk, and other protein-based fabrics, use a detergent specifically formulated for wool or silk on a delicate cycle, or hand-wash. Always follow the garment care label.

⚠ Not for wool, silk, or other animal fibres

Protease, the enzyme in Sensitive Laundry Liquid that breaks down sweat and food residues, also breaks down protein-based fibres. Avoid wool, silk, cashmere, alpaca, mohair, and angora.

✓ What it's suitable for

Sensitive Laundry Liquid works on most everyday fabrics. Cellulase in the formula gently reduces pilling on cotton over repeated washes, helping clothes look newer for longer. Always follow the garment care label.

What should I use for wool or silk?

Use a detergent specifically formulated for wool or silk. These products are pH-balanced for protein fibres and contain no enzymes that would break the fabric down. Look for products labelled "wool wash", "silk wash", or "delicate wash". For machine washing, use the wool or delicate cycle on cool water only, hot water shrinks and felts wool. For most wool and silk garments, hand-washing in cool water with a wool wash is the safest option. Lay flat to dry, never tumble dry. Always follow the garment care label.
